General Facts about the Philippines

The nation of the Philippines is made up of many islands. The waters of the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean surround it. Tourists come to the Philippines to explore the natural wonders it has to offer.

On the Southeast Asia side of the Pacific Ocean lies and archipelago that is well known as the Philippines. It has seven thousand one hundred seven islands. Countries that are nearby include China, Palau, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan. 

Citizens of the Philippines are incredibly ethnically diverse. There are three major islands in the Philippines namely; Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Other dialects are also spoken in other regions, but The Official language of the Filipinos is called Filipino.

Initially, Filipinos were referred to as “Negritos”. Prior to the people from other countries even reaching the country, they were here. During the ninth century, the first Filipinos began trading. Indonesia, China. India and Malaysia were some of the countries that have already traded with the Philippines even centuries ago.

The country was discovered in the 1500s by Spanish explorers. It was Ferdinand Magellan who first reached the Philippine islands and befriended the Filipinos. In the 16th century spaniards arrived on the islands. Other Spanish exlorers soon followed and established different settlement all over the country, Lapu-Lapu was the ruler that killed Magellan. The islands were conquered one by one starting with Manila in 1571. Up to and including the Spanish-American War, there were many revolutions set forth by Spanish leadership. Americans had established the commonwealth government that had endured in the Philippines until the abrupt start of World War II.  The Filipinos finally gained independence a few years after World War II.

For three years the Philippine islands were occupied by the Japenese. When the Americans returned, it was under General Douglas MacArthur, who led his forces, including many Filipinos,  into the Philippines. The Japanese were beaten by them, but they did leave a path of massive destruction in certain places. Afterward on in 1946 Filipinos gained independency from Incorporated States.

The Philippines climate is tropical. It is typically humid everyday. The temperature averages around 26 degrees Celsius. Though not the situation in some provinces, the Philippines' two seasons are dry and wet. The dry season usually lasts from March through May, while the wetter months are from June through November.  Sometimes the islands see typhoons during the wetter months of the year, also. Many of the Philippine islands also enjoy cooler weather during the months of December through February.

The Philippine islands is rich with natural attractions which is the reason why it attracts many visitors every year. There are stunning spots from north to south. In Luzon some of the interesting places are Baguio, and Ilocos Norte. A beautiful landscape can be scene in city Baguio. It has cool weather too, and more so in month of December. The National Capital Region (NCR), that is the start of Manila, is located in the middle of Luzon The President of the Philippines resides in the Malacañang Palace. It is found at the northern edge of the beautiful Pasig River.

Popular tourist destinations in Visayas are Aklan, Boracay Island, as well as Cebu. The beaches in Boracay are famous flush in otherwise countries because it is really floury and educator. Cebu is an additional up-to-date city similar to Manila, and it is located near the Mactan beaches.

In Mindanao, Davao is one of the cities you should visit. The Philippine Eagle lives here. In the region of Davao is Samal Island, known for its beautiful, clean beach and Mount Apo, the tallest mountain in the Philippines.
